12th memorial "Dragiša Šarić" tournament begins on Friday
More than 70 veteran teams will come out on the court during the three days of the tournament, in honor of the former player and coach of the black and whites.
Memorial tournament "Dragiša Šarić" begins on Friday, November 29. During the three days of the tournament, 71 veteran teams from 16 regional and European countries will compete (15 female and 56 male teams). At the press conference, held in the Basketball Federation of Serbia, Miodrag Miško Marić, Dušan Duda Ivković, Snežana Zorić, Jadran Vujačić i Rade Petrović, famous basketball referee and former Secretary-General of the Basketball Federation of Yugoslavia, as well as the current Secretary-General of the Basketball Federation of Serbia, Zlatko Bolić, spoke to the media.
On behalf of the organization, Miško Marić pointed out that the games will be played in halls Vizura, Vizura Tošin Bunar, Pinki, SC Master, and "Ranko Žeravica" sports hall, while the final games will be played in Vizura Sport in Zemun on November 30. There will be a total of 84 games in 10 different categories.
Once again this year, the tournament is for a good cause, because a part of the profit will go to the association of basketball players in wheelchairs.
Dragiša Šarić passed away suddenly in 2008, while he was on vacation in Pula. At the time, he was an assistant coach at Partizan BC. Among Partizan's fans, he will be remembered as the oldest player from the legendary generation that became the European champion in 1992.
During his career, Šarić played for Radnik, Ušće, Vojvodina, Partizan, Profikolor, Honved, and Beobanka, while he spent his last season as a player in 1999, in Iceland.
As a coach, Dragiša Šarić worked for Lavovi, Vojvodina, Vizura, Mega Ishrana, and Partizan.
