The Black and Whites dunk NLB final path
BC Partizan players chose the best way to celebrate 17 years of conquering Europe in Istanbul beating the fiercest rivals BC Red Star 64:58 in the biggest Arena in The Balkans in the semi-final match of NLB F4. Red Star players opened the game in style and spiced it up from the very beginning after an 11-0 run. However, Partizan players answered to the agression making 13-0 run and gaining their first lead (13-11) for the first quarter closure. The Black and Whites kept high tempo on defense in the second quarter which resulted in acquiring a significant lead at the half time break (31:23). The third qurter was marked by keeping the lead from the black and white guys but the red and white rival woke up in the dawn of the final qurter to upset the black and white title holders on their way to the throne by diminishing the lead to 3 (48:45). However, the reigning champions allowed no surprise and offered a spectar of monstruous slam dunks arranged by Stephane Lasme and Jan Vesely which provoked eruptions of joy on Arena South stands. That was a real burst of confidence for the black and whites who comfortably finished the match."This was a big win over the biggset rival. Red Star team is in great shape at the moment and it was only for our desire and devotion on the court to win the match," said Partizan player Čedomir Vitkovac and continued: " The best teams will meet in the final and the only decider of that match could be fans and nothing but that," he answered to a journalist question. "It is April 16 today, the day when Partizan has hardly ever lost since Istanbul 1992, although we had a hard job tonight. We could lose a lot more tonight, and if Red Star team won this match they could have materialized the complete season. We bore the favourite's burden through the match because we finished the league dominantly and we could have lost everything in just one match. We had a lot of playing cramps out of that fear through the entire match. We missed a lot of easy points under the hoop and we could have paid expensively for the initial 11-0 run from Red Star. When we had a 10 point lead we could not break the match and rise to 15. Red Star is a quality rival with experience and a good coach and it is very hard to play against them and they will reach the titles if Partizan halts on the way. A large majority expected to see Hemofarm in the final. However, Cibona controlled the entire match and comfortably won. The home Arena could be the biggest advantage in the final and I expect to see even bigger support on the stands. I also hope that a significant number out of 3000 tickets that the city has taken will finish in the hands of Partizan fans,", said post-match BC Partizan Head Coach Duško Vujošević.
