Real falls in Pionir’s crater
Another one of Europe’s greats could not withstand the hell of Pionir. In the second round of Euroleague, Partizan has beaten Real, final score 81:77. The guys in black and white came out of the locker room great and mid 1st quarter obtained a double digit lead. With great movement and high percentage offense and aggressive defense, our champion completely outplayed the Madrid team in the 1st half. The Royal club woke up in the 2nd half and managed to turn the score in their favor. In the 27th minute Real had an 8 point advantage (55:47) but then Partizan answered with a 8:0 run which restored parity. As the end of the game drew near, high on the noise created from the bleachers, Partizan broke their opponent and the tradition of Real’s invincibility. “We made a notable accomplishment with the help of our supporters. I thank the players and the fans on their devotion to the club. Real is a team that is stronger than we are, however basketball is a thinking game and we were able, for the most part, to exploit Real’s weaknesses. In the 3rd quarter we did not have control and toughness at the defensive end, as well as wits at the offensive end. I am pleased with our new team and the way they play and I hope they will grow to be champions. By losing Pekovic, Kecman and Palacio we lost the plazers that have, besides basketball, also a human quality, however we’ve lost even greater players (Kicanovic, Dalipagic, Divac, Paspalj, Ðordevic, Danilovic...) and still, Partizan maintained a high level of play. You could hear applause after the game. It’s a sign that the fans are pleased, but it’s also a sign that the game is over and we turn our attention to Buducnst and Milano, there’s no time to celebrate. It gives me great pleasure that Partizan has beaten Real for the first time and I hope that in future we will repay the debts from previous seasons” stated Partizan’s coach Duško Vujoševic after the game.
