Olympiakos defeated PAO in 'Greek Old Firm'
BC Panathinaikos players suffered a painful defeat against their bitter rivals Olympiakos ahead of away game aginst Partizan in Euroleague Top 16 Week 5 match on Thursday, March 5. PAO almost lost all the chances to fight for the first league position for play-offs. Unicaja beat Pamesa, Lottomatica beat Sneider.Panathinaikos lost to Olympiakos 77:75 on Greek league Day 20. Željko Obradović's team played well in the first and the last period of the match and although they had a lead, they lost it quickly and trailed by 10 until sensational come-back in the last minute 71:71. The Reds were concentrated and took away the win by free-throws.Vasilis Spanoulis and Mike Batist 19 points each and 9 rebounds from Batist were not enough for 'the greens'. Nikola Peković scored 5 points while Dušan Kecman remined on the bench in this match. Panathinaikos are runners-up to the league leaders Olympiakos and trail two wins now.Unicaja prepared an instant recovery from last week's difficult defeat by Partizan at home and they managed to beat Pamesa on the road 79:83. Although Vule Avdalovića, former Partizan player, scored inspiring 21 points for Pamesa, the Valencia team just did not have what it takes to beat fabulous Marcus Haislip in this game with 23 points. Kosta Perović, also former Partizan player scored 8 points and 4 rebounds for Pamesa. Unicaja currently holds the sixth ACB league position. Lottomatica beat Snaidero 83:70 on Italian Championship Day 20. Ibrahim Jaaber raged on the floor with 26 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for Partizan's Week 6 opponents.
